Yes but once you plug it through a power amp its no longer direct-it has to go through a speaker after, then a microphone, and so on. (WHILE YOU MIGHT THINK YOU CAN PLUG IT INTO NON POWERED MONITORS- GUITAR SPEAKERS HAVE A CERTAIN FREQUENCY RESPONSE THAT ARE MADE ESPECIALLY GOOD SOUNDING FOR GUITARS- SO IT WOULD SOUND HARSH AND BAD!)īecause guitars rely on the sound of speakers and in some amps the power amp section- you would need some sort of simulation so the guitar doesn't sound direct and painful- that's where Fractal comes in- there's cabinet simulation (IR's) and power amp simulation (crazy technology which makes fractal the best)- so the Axe FX would sound great with powered studio speakrs (because the high end guitar cabinets cut off is also cut off)
You couldn't plug in a regular guitar amp or head into powered studio monitors "But if you are using powered studio monitors, would you still need a power amp?" So- when it comes to like AC/DC (the band) the power amp section of those marshall amps being driven so loud is where that distortion comes from. So- now a days we have distortion pedals and all that kind of stuff- but way back when- many people got their sound from cranking the hell out of an amp.
They also make combo amps- combo amps are all 3 parts built in- preamp/poweramp/speakers all wired together.
